Collier County to open beaches, playing fields, and hard courts on April 30

Based on presentations from local experts highlighting the fact that voluntary compliance with established COVID-19 safety protocols continues to be consistently observed in Collier County, the Collier County Board of County Commissioners, at their board meeting on April 28, 2020, approved a motion to open beaches, including beach parking, showers, and restrooms, as well as the playing fields and hard courts in Collier County parks beginning at sunrise on Thursday, April 30. The beaches will close each day at sunset and playing fields and hard courts will close at 8 pm.

Access to playing fields and hard courts will be limited to ten persons and competitive games are not permitted at this time. All trails, green spaces and parking areas in Collier County parks remain open.

The public is expected to continue to follow the Governor’s Executive Order and CDC guidance regarding social distancing (six feet apart from non-family members) and to avoid congregating in groups of more than ten. Park staff will be present to remind individuals that these guidelines are in place and must be followed in order to continue to limit the spread of COVID-19. This decision is the first step toward a measured approach to begin to safely reopen services and facilities that were closed due to COVID-19 while continuing to observe the Governor’s Executive Order and CDC guidance.

Collier County Government will be monitoring compliance with protocols to ensure residents are accessing and enjoying the beaches and parks in a safe manner.
