Waste Collection and Disposal Preliminary Assessment Notices

The collection and disposal of residential solid and hazardous waste is mandatory in Collier County. Each year since 1996, the annual assessment (fee) for solid and hazardous waste collection and disposal services has been included on the non-ad valorem section of the residential property tax bill. The notices residents are beginning to see in their mail boxes is a requirement of Florida Statute 197.3662 that requires notification of the assessment be made by first class mail every five years. The notices inform residential customers that at its regularly scheduled meeting beginning at 9 a.m., September 10, 2019, the Board of County Commissioners will adopt a resolution approving the annual assessment.

The rate for the coming fiscal year (October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020) for District I is $217.50 per unit, and $209.87 per unit for District II. District I is the area of Collier County (including the cities of Marco Island and Everglades City) serviced by Waste Management, Inc., of Florida. District II is the Immokalee and Ave Maria areas serviced by Waste Connections, Inc. Both rates represent a 2 percent increase over the prior year to cover contractual rate increases for the franchise haulers and landfill tipping fees.

Residents of Collier County receive the highest level of service for the price they pay in the state of Florida. Collection services include twice weekly unlimited garbage collection, once weekly yard waste collection, once weekly recycling collection, and once weekly bulky item collection.
