The extended family at the Immokalee Fire Control District is growing. In a very unique way of conducting a gender reveal, Derek Neuman and his wife Lauren, finally learned the sex of their unborn baby.

Derek, a Driver-Engineer with the Immokalee Fire Control District and his wife Lauren, a nurse with Naples Community Hospital, wanted to do something a little different when it came to revealing the sex of their unborn child.

While some couples release balloons or cut into a cake that’s color coded, Derek and his wife wanted to do something that’s tied in with the brotherhood of being part of the fire service family. With the help of fellow firefighters, Heavy Rescue 31 became the method used to deliver the big message.

As Derek and Lauren waited anxiously, firefighters climbed to the top of Heavy Rescue 31, opened the envelope containing the sex of the child, and poured a non-hazardous dye into the water tank. As the blue water shot out of the top of fire truck, family, friends, and co-workers cheered as Derek and Lauren celebrated and embraced one another.

The Neuman’s are now awaiting little Dawson Asher Neuman’s arrival in the upcoming year.
