Governor’s budget brings plan to widen SR 82

Florida Governor Rick Scott announced on Tuesday, November 14, that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will receive a historic $10.8 billion during fiscal year 2018-2019 in an effort to make Florida’s transportation and infrastructure system the best in the nation.

Governor Scott said “Transportation infrastructure plays an important role in helping support our booming economy, growing population and record numbers of visitors. By making historic investments in Florida’s transportation system for the past five years, we have solidified Florida as a national leader and a global destination for trade.”

Of the $10.8 billion investment in transportation, $37 million is being allocated to finally widen State Road 82 from two to four lanes from Gator Slough Lane to State Road 29 in Immokalee. The 3.2 mile project will increase capacity to accommodate current traffic and future growth in the area.

JoAnn May with FDOT said that while they don’t have en exact start date for construction, the funding is being allocated in late 2018, so construction should start within the 2018-2019 budget year.
