Deputies with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office say that they received a call regarding a stolen Lipman Produce semi-truck and trailer shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Lipman Produce employees say that they noticed the semi-truck and trailer leave their parking lot on Roberts Avenue, strike a yellow traffic pole, then head toward New Market Road.

It is believed that the truck traveled along New Market Road before heading south on North 15th Street. The truck continued onto Main Street where it finally drove over a curb, crashed into a traffic sign, and came to rest at the corner of Main Street W. and South 7th Street.

The driver was still behind the wheel when deputies arrived on scene.

After giving the driver several orders to step out of the truck, deputies entered the truck where a struggle ensued.

Deputies were able to force the driver from the truck and assisted him to the ground where he was placed in custody.

Alfredo Perez, 19, was charged with grand theft auto and resisting arrest without violence. Perez remains in custody and a bond has not yet been set.
