It took four tries for this group but this year it was their time. After getting the number 1 seed in the tournament we went into the semifinals with only 12 players due to religious commitments, a player out of the country, and an injury. The boys stuck together and beat Tampa Dynamo 2-0. We gained two of the players for Sunday’s Championship match against IMG Academy from Bradenton. Leading 2-0 at half time gave us a little breathing room, but IMG came back with two goals, the tying goal with 3 minutes left in the game. Two 15 minute overtime periods were played without any score which left us only penalty kicks to decide the game. We changed our goalkeeper Jorge Nicolas after he had played a great game in the nets for 120 minutes for a taller and wider arm span Carlos Contreras. Carlos stopped the first penalty from IMG and then Carlos Contreras, Ulises Soto, Juan Velazquez, and CJ Moya converted their kicks for a 4-3 victory.

It is the first Region C Championship for this group of boys that has been together since they were 13 years old. We are now heading to The Presidents Cup on April 30th to play the winners of the other three Regions. Winning Presidents Cup will send us to College Station Texas on June 14-19 to play in the Region III Presidents Cup but we are still two wins from that event.

Congratulations to all the boys for a great tournament.
