On Saturday December 1, the Fellowship Sports Ministry from the First Baptist Church of Immokalee will start its first NFL flag football practice of the season. Season officially begins on December the 8.

Immokalee’s flag football league is a part of NFL Flag, which has several co-ed flag football leagues throughout the country. NFL Flag was designed to encourage children ages 5 – 14 to become physically active in a non-contact sport, and is sponsored by the National Football league.

Also, NFL Flag is an opportunity for students to get more time on the field than if they played contact football.

NFL Flag football has 8 players per team playing 5 on 5. Teams, named after real NFL teams, are divided into four teams per age bracket: 5-6 co-ed, 7-8 co-ed, 9-11 co-ed, 12-14 boys and 12-14 girls.

Games will be played at Gary Bates Stadium, at Immokalee High School, on Saturday mornings and practices will be one hour before the games start.

For those interested in playing flag football, there is a mandatory parent meeting on October 28 at 1 p.m. at Fellowship Church of Immokalee.

Also, participants must register on www.fellowshipchurch.com, by clicking the “sports” link and pay a $50 fee that is due by November 2 in order to avoid late fees. All participants must register online and fill out the form at the church.
